Imange’s life transformed from one of abandonment to one of security many years ago when she was brought to the Lukhanyiso Safe House in Knysna, South Africa.

She was just 5 years old when her parents walked out of their house, leaving this sweet little girl to care for her 2-year-old brother. It is unknown how many days they were alone; but when the children were discovered, little 5-year-old Imange had been cooking and caring for her little brother with remarkable courage.

Today, Imange is an 18-year-old young woman stepping into her next chapter. After many years at Lukhanyiso, she has chosen to complete her education through a homeschooling curriculum while living with her grandmother.

Though she no longer lives full-time at the Safe House, Lukhanyiso continues to walk alongside her. Through Khayamandi’s support of Lukhanyiso, Imange’s homeschooling is fully funded. This ensures she has the opportunity to build a strong and independent future.
