Beauty’s Journey
In the heart of the Knysna Township, in an area called Concordia, there is a safe haven for neglected children called Lukhanyiso Safe House. Here children are loved and cared for in ways they have never experienced. Beauty is just one of these children who have been given a chance at a brighter future.
At the tender age of 1-1/2 years old, this sweet little baby girl was found by a police officer in the street in the middle of the night. A baby with no name and no parents. He picked her up and brought her straight to Lukhanyiso Safe House for the night, where Ella, the Safe House Mom, welcomed her with open arms and named her Beauty. During Beauty’s first year in Ella’s care, she was a very shy and withdrawn child. She never uttered a sound… no crying, no screaming, no laughing, no talking. Nothing. Ella tried everything to bond with Beauty. It was obvious that she had very little attachment or bonding to a mom. Ella’s persistence and unconditional love broke down the walls Beauty had formed around her. As time went on, Beauty came out of her shell. She embraced the love and security that surrounded her. Beauty is now a beautiful and thriving teenage girl. Her voice is no longer silent.
Khayamandi Foundation partners with the Lukhanyis0 Safe House to fund the education opportunities for Beauty and all of the children living with her.
